This book gets both the warm fuzzies and the angsty agonizing just right. And since it's Spencer Spears, there's plenty of chatty snark.I read the original version a few years ago when it was published under one of those group pen names, and I like this new version much better. A new Spencer Spears book is always cause for celebration, and My First Time Fling doesn’t disappoint. It’s super sexy and absolutely adorable. I love the development of the relationship between Jesse and Mark. Coming off of a bad break up, Jesse is unsure what to do with this life. He doesn’t know if he should stay in Savannah or move back home to Florida. He’s working two jobs in order to make enough money to buy his dream bed and breakfast and doesn’t have much of a life. After his life falls apart in Chicago, Mark moves to Savannah to help his grandmother fix up her house. He’s dealing with some pretty heavy issues and doesn’t feel ready for any sort of relationship. He meets Jesse at a bar one night and agrees to help him train for a marathon. The two men become close friends, and Mark is confused by his feelings for Jesse since he’s never been attracted to men. The two of them are so cute together! I especially love their banter about bulldogs. They’re supportive of each other and have an easy friendship. However, Mark is afraid to get closer to Jesse because he doesn’t want to burden him with his issues. Both men have baggage, and there’s some miscommunication, but they’re ultimately really good for each other. Spears has the ability to tackle sensitive subjects in a way that’s respectful without letting the story get too heavy. The bonus story is also lovely and definitely worth a download. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
