Darcy has an uncle, his father's brother, who married a black woman in Jamaica during his time in the navy. The uncle dies during the journey back to England, and his wife gives birth to a daughter who is taken away from her at the insistence of Lord Matlock and George Darcy. After George Darcy dies, his son tries to reunite his aunt with her daughter, but people in this era are not tolerant of black people.This is an interesting premise, and imaginative. However, the writing doesn't do it justice. I found the text to be confusing, and many of the main characters to be rather silly. Bingley seems totally clueless, incapable of original thought, and completely dependent on Darcy to make all of his decisions. Mr Bennett is a sad sack who just whines about his inability to run Longbourn profitably, but doesn't have the motivation to do anything about it. Darcy falls for Elizabeth, and I can't imagine why. Worst of all is Elizabeth, who is constantly blushing or going weak in the knees, having flutterings in her chest, or becoming generally incoherent in the presence of Darcy. Early in the story she tells Darcy that she prefers "idle leisure, frivolous reading, and making silly decisions." What happened to our intelligent and witty Elizabeth? She acts too much like her mother or Lydia.The romance in the story is nice. There are no obstacles and no real villains, only misunderstandings. The writing seemed weak and amateurish, not one of this author's better books. I recommend it with reservations. Darcy was given a secret upon his father's deathbed. that secret had compelled Darcy to hopefully right a terrible wrong. a secret that surrounded his London existence in rumor and innuendoes. a secret that would lead him and his friend, Charles Bingley to Hertfordshire, Meryton, and the Bennet estate of Longbourn. Fate would literally have Darcy falling off his high horse at the very feet of the impertinent Miss Elizabeth Bennet. if only Fate could eliminate misunderstandings, misconceptions, angry words and harsh actions. but the Darcy secret was not his alone to tell. Miss Elizabeth Bennet would open her heart to this gentleman, and, with strength and courage, ODC would search the possibility of their own HEA. dear Reader, do not miss this one!!! it is wonderful!!!
